Drink In the Experience
The traditions of winemaking are deeply rooted here in Hermann, with family-owned wineries dotting the landscape, each offering a unique taste of the region. Hermann is now also home to several distilleries. Whether you’re a wine or spirits connoisseur or a casual taster, touring Hermann’s drinking establishments provides an immersive experience into the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into every bottle and glass. Read about all of Hermann’s wineries, distilleries, and breweries, and decide which to add to your must-visit list! Here are a few to entice you:
Hermannhof Winery is synonymous with Hermann itself. Its stone cellars are brick superstructure on the National Register of Historic Places. Hermannhof offers wine tastings and self-guided tours. Their stone cellars, built in the mid-1850s, are still used today in their winemaking process.
Stone Hill Winery offers wine tastings and free daily, guided tours. If you want a more in-depth experience, you can schedule their Wine Experience, designed for a limited number of guests for a more intimate experience.
Expand your palette beyond wine with a tour of Lionheart Whiskey Co. Tours. Wednesday through Saturday, tours are given every half-hour during business hours. Learn about the property owned by August Nasse in the early years of Hermann’s settlement. Tours include guided tastings and a lesson on how to make an Old Fashioned Cocktail using their spirits.
If it’s beer you’re after, Tin Mill Brewery offers a walk-through, self-guided tour of their brewing operations right inside their building. At the end, buy a Hermann souvenir in the gift shop, or head back to the biergarten for another round.
Tour the Hermann Area
There’s plenty of tours and experiences within 15 miles of Hermann. Make an afternoon trip and check out some businesses from around the area!
In nearby New Haven, Pinckney Bend Distillery offers tours of their on-site production facility on Thursdays and Fridays at 11am, 1pm, & 3pm.
Just to the east of Hermann on MO-100 is Copper Mule Distillery. Tour the new production facility with state-of-the-art equipment and the rack house where barrels are stored. Savor unique bourbons paired with chocolate.
South of Hermann, Swiss Meat & Sausage Company will let you explore the world of German sausage-making. In October, tours of their facility are offered every Saturday.
Wood Hat Distillery in New Florence offers tours by appointment of their facility, and tastings during business hours on Monday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday.
To the northwest, on the grounds at the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows is St. Martin’s Church Museum. Self-guided tours of these 40 acres provide an idyllic, spiritual, escape from a hectic schedule. Self-guided tours of St. Martin’s Church Museum are available daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Guided tours are available by appointment.
Walking Tours in Hermann, Mo
Giving tours on Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday, Hermann’s History & Haunts offers walking tours around town where you’ll learn about local hauntings. Tours will go throughout the downtown historic district, and offer narrated stories of local attractions and their spirited past.
If you want more scares, local animal nonprofit Ferals in Peril will run Tarot and Tours on September 12, September 26, October 10, and November 3. Tarot Readings and Spirited History Tours are on foot or in a 1930 Studebaker Limousine.

- Hermann Fire Company Museum – Explore this tribute to Hermann’s firefighting history. Showcasing some of the oldest fire equipment in the state, including the hand pumper Consequence, built in Hermann by the local blacksmith. The department has also maintained records of all its meetings dating back to 1859! It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in learning the history of those who have bravely protected Hermann through the years.
- City of Hermann Caboose Museum – Who doesn’t love a train? Climb aboard this museum-in-a-caboose to discover interactive displays detailing Missouri’s railroad history.
- Deutschheim State Historic Site – Experience what daily life was like for 19th-century German immigrants at the Deutschheim State Historic Site. This site includes several historic buildings that have been preserved and restored to their original condition.
- Historic Hermann Museum Located in the German School building, features an array of artifacts from local industries, notable residents, and significant events. Be sure to check out the clock atop the building – it’s been keeping time for Hermann since 1890.
Hermann Farm
If you like being outdoors, but walking tours aren’t for you, step back in time and experience Hermann by taking a tram ride at Hermann Farm. Enjoy narrated tram tours every Thursday through Sunday, while you visit homesteads recreated in 1800s style, stables that are home to the amazing Black Shire horses, or visit the on-site Hermann Farm Distillery or Reserve Cellars.
