George Johnson Park

This park was dedicated in 1986 as part of Hermann’s 150th anniversary celebration.

During the event, a court of inquiry exonerated George Bayer, finding that the tasks assigned to him would have been impossible to carry out.

Who was George Johnson? A former member of the Corps of Engineers, George used to spend time with his friends at this park when it was just trees and a bench. He donated the money to build the pavilion and make it an official park. The park includes the Park Shelter, Picnic Tables, and is track-side by the Missouri River and passing Amtrak Missouri River Runner trains.
