Hermann, Missouri

The Great Outdoors Beyond Your Backyard

We’ve all been cooped up for too long. It’s time to get back out there and explore the great outdoors. Fortunately for you, you won’t have to travel very far to experience the beauty of heartland America. Hermann, Missouri sits on the southern bank of the Missouri River and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful bluffs, rolling hills and forests in the state.

While you’ll get to enjoy the beautiful fresh air, be sure to bring your face coverings with you on your outdoor adventures so you can pop into a winery or shop whenever they catch your fancy.

Roll on Through

The beautiful hiking and biking Katy Trail stretches from the outskirts of St. Louis, running alongside the Missouri River just north of Hermann, onto Jefferson City and onward to Clinton. While some make a point to bike the entire trail, you can easily take a quick out-and-back ride and enjoy the Katy Trail at your own pace. Countless visitors choose to ride the Amtrak into Hermann, bike around for a morning or afternoon, ride a bit of the Katy Trail, stay a night to explore downtown Hermann and hop back onto the train the next day to head out to another Missouri gem.

Thanks to the conveniently located train station and Hermann’s quaint size, this charming town is an easy destination to explore for those who chose to leave their cars back at home. From the Amtrak Station you can walk a block over to Doxie Slush for a delicious frozen cocktail or Tin Mill Brewing Company for some fresh local brews. Both offer limited indoor and outdoor seating for visitors looking to relax and unwind. Want to venture a bit further? Hop in an Uber or taxi and head out to one of Hermann’s stunning vineyards. Because after all, not everything outdoors has to come with granola bars and activewear.

Down by the River

Hermann owes a lot to the Missouri River, from its initial settling to the constant beauty that it brings to the town, these tree-lined banks are a must-visit while in town. It should come as no surprise that the riverfront has become a hot spot for camping; with the hottest spots for those with an affinity for Instagram being those with a clear shot of the bridge in the background.

Maybe you brought your fishing tackle along with you or fishing is the reason for visiting the Missouri River, Hermann has everything you need to have a great day on the river. Whether you’re planning on fishing from shore or on the river from your boat, just be sure to take in that moment of peace and quiet away from Zoom calls.

You don’t even have to come to Hermann one hundred percent prepared for adventure to have a good time. The Paddle Stop New Haven has everything you need from canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and river shuttles running regularly between Washington and Hermann; if it has to do with you having an amazing experience on the Missouri River, the Paddle Stop is ready to serve.
