Hermann Missouri

Your Perfect Heartland Road Trip Stop

The past year has made the world a smaller place. While the horizon may feel a bit closer than before, it has brought the things that surround into clearer focus. More and more folks have stepped away from air travel and have chosen to hop in the car to explore the places that have been just a drive away all along. It’s in times such as these that America’s hidden gems become treasures waiting to be uncovered; and when it comes to gems, Hermann has been shining bright for years, you simply may not have noticed.

Whether it’s the call of the road, the vineyards, or the arts that brings you to Hermann, there’s something for everyone along this beautiful stretch of the Missouri River. The local purveyors have been working hard to keep visitors safe and comfortable, so be sure to bring your face covering and practice safe social distancing while in Hermann.

Sips and Sweets

Hermann is nestled in the heart of Missouri wine country. While you can’t go wrong with any of the local vintners, there’s something special happening at Adam Puchta Winery. The folks over at Adam Puchta are not new to the area, nor are they new to wine, having just celebrated their 165th anniversary. It’s safe to say they’re a foundational part of Hermann. Enjoy their award-winning wine and grab a seat at the edge of their beautiful vineyard.

Visit Hermannhof Winery and feel as if you are stepping into OLD World wine country, small town Germany to be more exact. You’ll be greeted by their warm staff who will pour you samples and teach you a little about each varietal they offer along the way. This quaint winery is also award winning - bringing in awards from Wine Spectator, Food & Wine, and Wine Enthusiast. Their tasting room is currently limiting the number of patrons allowed inside at a time. Additional outdoor patio seating is available if you want to spend some extra time enjoying the winery.

You’ve been good all quarantine. It’s time to let that sweet tooth roam a little, and boy does Hermann have the place for you! Sugar Momma’s has everything from those nostalgic favorites you haven’t seen in years, to bins full of taffy ready for you to dig into, and over 50 flavors of pies that you’d swear your own momma made. This is the perfect spot for anyone looking to load up on treats for the road, or to wrap up a long day of exploring all the sites around Hermann.

Stretch Your Legs

Why would you settle for stretching your legs with a walk around the car or RV when you can stop in Hermann for a game of Pickleball? For those who haven’t played, imagine marrying the best parts of Ping Pong and Tennis, and for the fanatics (and wow are there a lot of fanatics out there), Hermann’s Pickle Ball courts are well worth the detour.

Not looking to break a sweat? Take a self-guided tour through the Historic Hermann Museum and learn how 19th century German immigrant culture melted into the early midwest Americana. With rooms dedicated to antique toys, collections of old photographs of early Missouri life, and a wealth of memorabilia surrounding the Missouri River, the Historic Hermann Museum is a must for the itinerary for anyone looking for a dose of nostalgia or history.

See Art, Make Art

If you are a lover of art, an artist or an artist in the making, then Hermann’s Blank Canvas Gallery & Studio is a must add to your trip’s itinerary. This painting studio offers painters of every talent level a fun place to paint and explore what could become a new hobby. Don’t be afraid! The friendly staff has seen far worse than your efforts, and they are excited to help walk you through some tips and tricks to improve your painting experience.

Hermann’s Your Next Stop

Whether you’re heading north, south, east, or west - a detour through Hermann is worth your time. It’s a trip that will turn into a tradition after one visit. From the quaint downtown shops and restaurants to the rolling vineyards and Missouri River views, this little town tucked into the quietest sliver of Missouri-heaven is sure to claim a place in your heart.
