Make it an Expedition

In recent years, the Hermann area has become known for more than just its wine. With the addition of craft breweries and distilleries, the town has extended its extensive wine knowledge to include other beverage production. 

The Missouri Spirits Expedition  (https://www.missouricraftdistillersguild.com/missouri-spirits-expedition ) is a great way to start exploring. There are six Official Outfitters in the Hermann area. Be sure to pick up your Expedition Log at the Visitor Information Center or at any of the Outfitter Locations and start your expedition in Hermann!

BLACK SHIRE DISTILLERY & TASTING ROOM

Black Shire Distillery is set on a historic farm in Hermann, Missouri, where German immigrants settled and built their lives. In the 1840s, the Rasche family established their farm and small still site where Black Shire sits today. The Distillery carries on their tradition of crafting spirits from local ingredients, with a focus on locally-grown grain aged in Missouri-made white oak casks. The Distillery crafts a lineup of spirits, including Bourbon, Rye, Blended Whiskey, Gin, and Vodka, along with limited release and seasonal offerings. Get a look at Hermann Farm where the namesake black shire horses are cared for and enjoy a tasting or skip the tram ride and enjoy a tasting at the downtown tasting room.

COPPER MULE DISTILLERY

2258 Highway 100 East

This heritage bourbon distillery offers a premium bourbon blended and bottled in Hermann, as well as a wheated Missouri bourbon. In addition to tours & tastings on the scenic bluffs of a former mule farm, visitors can enjoy bourbon-related products (BBQ sauce, rub, bourbon balls, bourbon bacon, specialty drinks) and barrel tasting events.

“Fernweh” is German for “wanderlust, the desire to explore.” Hand-crafted spirits, including Straight Rye Whiskey, Straight Bourbon, Wildflower Specialty Spirit, and Stardust Vodka, are made on-site. Amenities include a view of the distillery production facility, a guided tasting experience, a cocktail bar, a restaurant, and a second-story event venue overlooking the Missouri River.

PINCKNEY BEND DISTILLERY

With a philosophy that long friendships and shared passions are at the heart of their distillery, and driven by friendship, passion, and authenticity, Pinckney Bend strives to celebrate the history and traditions of those who came before. With a goal that remains simple, to produce premium quality, hand-crafted spirits worthy of their heritage, one small batch at a time.

Edelbrand Pure Distilling at THE TASTING ROOM AT ÜBERNACHTEN

213 Schiller Street

The Tasting Room at Übernachten, a nano-tasting room, features Edelbrand Pure Distilling, an un-aged European-styled fruit brandy produced in Marthasville, Missouri. Guided Tasting Experiences of Edelbrand or Craft Gins offered, along with flights, cocktails, craft sodas, espresso, and small bites. 

Wood Hat

489 Booneslick Rd, New Florence

Just 16 miles North on Highway 19, Wood Hat Spirits gives visitors a true “Field to Glass” experience. The location is certified as a true Craft Distillery by the American Distilling Institute, taking pride in using locally grown grains, fruit and nuts to produce award winning Bourbons, Corn Whiskeys and Cordials. Spirits are fermented, distilled and aged onsite using the only wood-fired still in the country.

Brews with Your buddies

For an afternoon of tall brews and tall tales, hit the breweries. Grab a pint or a pitcher at TIN MILL BREWERY, then head down to the game hall or out to the patio for a rousing game. Or pop into TURBULENCE BREWERY AT WINGS A-BLAZIN’ to enjoy their new just-tapped beers paired with cheesy fries and wings dressed to your chosen heat level!

Guys can be pampered, too! 

Maybe your looking for a way to remove yourselves from the worries of the day and let yourself be pampered. Schedule your haircut and shave and an old-fashioned barber. The Bearded Nail and Scarlet Razor offer men services; cuts, fades, beard trimming and shaping, and close shaves – complete with witch hazel. 

An experienced barber gives a man a straight blade shave. The barber's station has a variety of product and equipment within arm's reach.

Follow that up with an unforgettable experience at HOGSHEAD CIGARS & FINE TOBACCOS. In the private-club-like atmosphere, you will find the most extensive selection of bourbon whiskey, scotch, and other top-shelf libations in the area. ECO ADVENTURES ZIPLINES

An outdoor activity for the entire family, Eco Adventures features over a mile of ziplines at heights of up to 250 feet for amazing nature views. The courses utilize living trees and the natural contours of the land to provide an eco-friendly zipline adventure. Minimal walking is necessary. Reservations required.

GRAHAM CAVE STATE PARK

217 Highway TT Danville, MO 63361-5509

Graham Cave State Park provides opportunities for both recreation and education. Graham Cave and Graham Cave Trail are marked with interpretive exhibits detailing the cultural and natural significance of the site. The park also has a campground, and a boat ramp provides access to the Loutre River for boating and fishing.

HERMANN RIVERFRONT PARK 

Riverfront Park, access via Wharf Street

The boat ramp allows access for boats, kayaks, and canoes for adventures on the Missouri River or fish off the ramp or bank to catch your big fish story!

PADDLE STOP NEW HAVEN

1100 Miller Street

Float the Missouri River in a handcrafted 10-person canoe. The Voyager is a stable vessel and has a captain who will lead steering instructions on a leisurely trip along a picturesque section of the Missouri River.

Pig Out at Unique, Local Restaurants 

It’s no secret that Hermann is home to great food. Feast at a variety of local restaurants with the choices of pizza, wings, burgers, brats, and more!

HERMANN WURST HAUS

234 East First Street

Deli-style restaurant in this meat and sausage shop offers award-winning bratwurst, hickory-smoked pulled pork, deli meat and cheese sandwiches, house-made German sides, beer, wine, and craft soda. Open daily – see website for All You Can Eat Wurst Breakfast hours. Wurst Haus also offers on and off-site catering, sausage-making classes, group tours, and group meals.

Smoked, saucy meat sits on a platter with generous portions of potato salad heaped on the side. Beer in bottles and cans accompany the platters on a green picnic table in front of the red-brick building.

HERMANNHOF TASTING ROOM & DELI

330 East First Street

Hermannhof Winery offers views of cellars and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, and a tasting room for Hermann wines. Deli food, including locally-made German sausages, is available. Music is often heard on the outdoor patio in the summer. See Menu.

LOOSE CABOOSE SALOON

113 West Fifth Street

The Loose Caboose Saloon is a great place to hang out, have a drink, grab a bite, and enjoy yourself! Also, Loose Caboose serves a late night menu! Be entertained by big-screen TVs, bags/cornhole, ring game, and Jenga. Follow on social for Karaoke and DJ nights.

WINGS A-BLAZIN’ & TURBULENCE BREWERY AT WINGS A-BLAZIN’

120 East Fourth Street

A local favorite for casual dining, Wings A-Blazin’ serves fresh, never-frozen wings fried naked with a variety of temperatures and flavors, as well as salads, sandwiches, wraps, and pasta. Large 18-tap selection of microbrews and big-screen TVs to catch the game.

Attend a Brat Making Class at WurstHaus 

Learn, from the Wurstmeister himself, the German tradition of sausage making, his secrets for making the best bacon and how to butcher. 

In each class, Wurstmeister Mike will cover topics such as, mixing and grinding techniques, ingredients, types of casings, safe handling, smoking and cooking times and much more.  All classes include a wurst meal, 1 free drink ticket, a Wurst Haus Goody Bag, and a 10% discount on in-store purchases that day (excludes liquor and any in-store specials). 

You will also take home 2-3 pounds of the product that you helped make in the Wurst Making, Makin Bacon, Summer Sausage Making classes! 

Take a Motorcycle Ride Through the Scenic Hermann Hills

Are you and the guys looking for a great spot to ride? There are plenty of unique and scenic places to pull off and admire the scenery in Hermann!  Our historic, German town is full of hills, river bluffs, forest views, straightaways and unique views.

For a scenic trip take Highway 19 south of Hermann a short distance, then turn west onto Highway 100. Enjoy 15 miles of winding, scenic views before the road dips into the floodplain for a 10-mile stretch of mostly straight riding.
