William Fields addresses three areas of subject matter in his work—the natural world, things that are man-made and topics drawn from the history of art. Fields says his creative juices frequently are directed to the compositional aspects of a picture. “I concern myself with intensity—the light, the subject matter especially and a balance of all these concepts,” he says. “I strive to present as wide a range of values as possible and feel that this simple idea is key to the success or failure of every picture.”
