Threads of Missouri Quilt Exhibit – Keeping History Alive
Two state Bicentennial Quilts will be exhibited at Hermann’s two quilt shops, Thursday, March 24 – Monday, March 28, in a special event, “Threads of Missouri Quilt Exhibit.”
Missouri State Bicentennial Quilt
Featured at Silver Owl Specialty Quilts & Fabrics, 207 Schiller Street, this quilt has 121 blocks, from 91 counties. In honor of our great state’s two-hundred-year anniversary, the State Historical Society of Missouri, a partner in the Bicentennial Alliance, and Missouri Star Quilt Company, in partnership with the Missouri State Quilters Guild, teamed up to create the Missouri Bicentennial Quilt. The Missouri Bicentennial Quilt showcases the unique characteristics of Missouri culture and style.
The Gasconade County quilt block was artistically designed and sewn by Dr. Jaya Parker. Her quilt block features the Gasconade County Courthouse overlooking the Missouri River, the rolling hills and grapevines with grape clusters, and the Missouri River Bridge.
Missouri 4-H Bicentennial Quilt
Featured at Quilting Bee Fabrics, 119 Bavarian Hills Plaza, Suite D, the State 4-H Quilt was pieced together by Dr. Ina Linville, former director of MU Extension 4-H Center. The quilt was created from blocks sent in by 4-Hers from across the state. Each of the 8 Missouri 4-H regions were asked to submit blocks that represented the area they live in and 4-H to celebrate Missouri and its history. The quilt was quilted by Appletree Quilt Center of Columbia.
