The perfect place for a peaceful getaway

Although located only a mile outside of Hermann, when you arrive at Alpenhorn Gasthaus & Kitchen, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in place and time. The 8-acre property, its buildings and vineyards, are reminiscent of an earlier, simpler period, which is what makes this B&B such a popular retreat among visitors to Wine Country. The owners, husband and wife, Kate Schandl and Adrian Sigrist, a Switzerland native, found the property in 2003 and were enchanted by the beautiful and peaceful Hermann hillside. Opened that same year on Switzerland’s Independence Day, the Alpenhorn originally featured a two-room guesthouse.

In the sixteen years since opening, the Alpenhorn Gasthaus & Kitchen is now a B&B with a charming restaurant and four renovated guest rooms in the property’s historic buildings that date back to the mid-1800s. Close to Hermann for those wanting to explore Wine Country and all the Hermann area has to offer, the Alpenhorn also provides its guests with a tranquil, retreat-like space for them to explore and enjoy. Feel free to walk the property’s many acres, picnic on the hillside, feed the friendly Alpenhorn sheep (Hansel and Rudy), sip wine in the historic wine cellar, or even try to play a tune on the place’s namesake, a 12-foot authentic Swiss alpenhorn!

Warm, welcoming rooms for your relaxing retreat

Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway or anyone looking for a serene location to spend the evening, the Alpenhorn Gasthaus rooms are thoughtfully updated with modern amenities while maintaining their old world charm. The use of rich, historic colors and natural pine hardwood floors transports guests to the sweet and simple life that was likely once lived on the property. Two guest rooms, the King Room and the Queen Suite, are located in the beautiful brick main house. The recently-renovated spaces, Das Land Haus and Das Kleine Haus, were once a grandfather house and summer kitchen, and now serve as quaint cottages for guests to enjoy. In addition to the many amenities available to guests—including spa-like robes, private, updated bathrooms, and luxury mattresses—, a complimentary 3-course breakfast is available each morning.

Though the peaceful spaces are perfect for couples enjoying a weekend in Wine Country, the Alpenhorn also welcomes those traveling for business or visiting mid-week, often with special rates. Check out their website to learn more about room rates and availability.
