Biking in Hermann

Biking in Hermann

Tour of Missouri riders prepare to tackle one of Hermann’s steepest hills.

For serious training or a leisurely family outing, Hermann is a favorite destination for bikers.

A protected eight-foot bike lane on the Missouri River bridge provides safe access to the Katy Trail, the nation’s longest rails-to-trails project. The McKittrick trailhead is just a mile north of Hermann. [Katy Trail map and information]

If it’s elevation you crave, Hermann’s famous hills offer hard-core enthusiasts 400 feet of vertical climb within the city limits. Take to the open road and you’ll be amid the beautiful rolling hills of Missouri Wine Country.

At day’s end, return to one of Hermann’s gracious B&Bs, many of which offer special services and amenities for bikers.
